Kings Family Restaurants Announces Junior Golf Players of the Year

Pittsburgh (PRWEB) August 11, 2007 -- Kings Family Restaurants, the proud sponsor of the Tri-State PGA Junior Golf Tournament Series, named five junior golfers Players of the Year following the tournament's championship round at Highland Country Club on Wednesday, August 8.

The Players of the Year included John Hook of Cabot in the Boys 17-18 division; Don Lewis of Wexford in the Boys 15-16 division; Christopher Cline of Greensburg in the Boys 12-14 division; Jenna Rinker of Slippery Rock in the Girls 16-18 division and Nadia Luttner of Pittsburgh in the Girls 12-15 division.

"All of us at Kings are happy to offer our continued support to these talented junior golfers," said Hartley King, founder and president of Kings Family Restaurants. "Each player displayed respect and enthusiasm for the game of golf, and I wish them continued success in pursuing golf as a career or as a hobby."

The tournament began in mid-June, with 15 open-entry events and 120 junior golfers. Using the cumulative Tri-State PGA Point System to determine winners, the tournament champions for each age group in each category, plus the top ten finishers in each category, qualified for the Championship round.

King started the tournament, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, as a way to share his passion for golf with the next generation. Today, it is one of the oldest and longest-running junior golf tournaments in the Tri-State area, allowing junior golfers to learn the ins and outs of a golf competition and exposing them to the educational, health and social benefits of playing golf.

Many of the junior golfers will use the tournament as a springboard into a golf career. Past participants have received golf scholarships to Division I schools and received invitations to join the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tours.

About Kings Family Restaurants

The first Kings restaurant opened in 1967 at the corner of Routes 48 and 30 in North Versailles. Dubbed "Kings Country Shoppes," it later took on the name Kings Family Restaurants -- indicating that the place was indeed a restaurant and not a country store that served milk and butter. In the 1970s, Hartley Kings opened six locations and by the 1980s the chain grew to 21. Today Kings operates 36 locations, including the newest, in Leechburg, Pa., and employs 3,300. The restaurants serve more than 1 million customers a year. For more information, visit www.kingsfamily.com on the Web or call 412-751-9005.
