Centennial BBQ Contest Grand Champs to Compete in Bricktown BBQ State Championship Contest

(PRWEB) September 21, 2006 -- The Smokin’ Okies Barbecue Team, sponsored by Oklahoma-based smoker manufacturer Cookshack, Inc., will compete at the first Bricktown BBQ State Championship, September 30, hosted by Bass Pro Shops, in the Bass Pro Shop parking lot in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown entertainment district.

The Smokin’ Okies are Russ and Twila Garrett of Oklahoma City. The couple competes regionally and most recently picked up a Grand Championship at Oklahoma City’s Centennial BBQ Contest in June, 2006. Russ has been a barbecue aficionado for years and cooked ‘que around the world during his US Air Force career. Twila’s love of cooking and her presentation skills round out the team. The couple formed the Smokin’ Okies team about two years ago. They compete with two Fast Eddy’s by Cookshack Model FEC100 smokers.

Russ volunteers as the moderator of the Cookshack Barbecue Forum when he is not at his day job with Hewlett-Packard as a senior project manager. Twila uses her creativity to style hair.

The Bricktown contest is KCBS sanctioned, and has been declared by Governor Brad Henry as an Oklahoma State Championship contest. The contest begins at 10am on Saturday, September 30, 2006. Proceeds go to charities Infant Crisis Services and The Christmas Connection.
